A Man Needs a Company

A Man Needs a Company

Mr Ahmad, a grey-haired man, sitting beside the window, was looking dejected. He was all alone and feeling nostalgic. Engulfed in his past, he recalled his good old days when he was a sturdy young man. He got married to a pretty girl who gave birth to his two beautiful children. He had an ideal family, a beautiful wife and an adorable daughter, and a son. His wife was a family-oriented woman. She would look after the whole family with great care and affection.  He would feel himself the happiest person under the sun. But those sunny days were not permanent.

When his daughter was twelve years old, and son was ten years old, something happened which changed their life. His life partner and his beloved wife fell ill and departed to the eternal world, leaving them behind sad and alone. Now, it was the beginning of a new test of his life. He was devastated and didn't know how to tackle all this. He had to act as a mother and a father simultaneously. He made his utmost effort to fulfil his duties. He would make them breakfast, prepared lunch, and dinner for them. He would help them in their school homework.

On weekends, he would take them to parks for recreation. He never left them alone. He made his utmost efforts to keep them happy so that they didn't miss their mother. They grew up, and he grew old. His daughter got married and went abroad. His son also got married and got busy in his life. It was the happiest day in his life when his grandchild opened his eyes in this world. After retirement from the job, he used to spend most of his time playing with this bundle of joy.  The cute baby Ali was an immense source of happiness for him. When the child was two and a half years old, his parents admitted him to a Montessori school. His son and daughter-in-law both would go to their jobs, grandchild to his school, and the old man left alone at home.

The time passed with the same routine of the family. The boy grew up and turned into a ten years old intelligent boy. One day, he asked his son that he could help Ali in his studies. But according to his son, Ali's syllabus was hard, and he had obtained a professional tutor for him. His son's reply made him feel like he was a useless man. The grey-haired man was occupied in his memories, but the doorbell halted his train of thoughts.

His son entered the house with his son and wife. The three of them were tired of the routine work. The daughter in law set the table for lunch. The son called the father for lunch, but there was no response from his father. He went to his room annoyingly and found his father on the ground, unconscious, and fainted. He rushed him to the doctor. After a complete check-up, the doctor diagnosed that his father was the victim of depression which stemmed from loneliness. He needed the company of his loved ones.
The son felt ashamed and realized that he was so busy in his life. He completely neglected his father and pushed him in the valley of depression. He planned a picnic on the weekend so that the whole family could spend time with the father.

They went to the beach for the picnic.  The happiness and the spark on the father's face were matchless while playing with Ali. The son was overwhelmed by this scene: the tears were welling out and rolling down his cheeks.
